Roberta Anne Caffrey (Stickley), age 83, died on June 21, 2015 at The Parks
Assisted Living Facility in Odessa, TX. She was born on April 21, 1933 in
Moorefield, WV to parents Wade and Rebecca Stickley. She married George
Martin Caffrey in 1957, and they enjoyed 54 years together, raising a family
international travel. Roberta graduated from Moorefield High School in 1951.
She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Columbia University in
1955, Master of Science in Nursing from West Virginia University in 1983,
and a Master Degree in Ministry from Loyola, New Orleans in 1998. She had
opportunities to practice nursing in a variety of settings, both national and
international. She worked as an Associate Professor of Nursing at Shenandoah
College (now University) from 1983-1989. While with Project Hope, she
taught at the Grenada School of Nursing and the Nazarene College of Nursing
in Swaziland, Africa. Her teaching career centered on rural and border health.
She was active in the Texas and the National Rural Health Association as a
long-term board member and President for one year. She introduced the
concepts of Parish Nursing to the Diocese of Northwest Texas and served as
the Parish Nurse at St. John’s Episcopal for several years. After retirement as
Assistant Professor from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
School of Nursing in Odessa, TX, she and her husband enjoyed several years
She is preceded in death by her husband, George M. Caffrey, her parents, and
her son, Robert W. Caffrey. Roberta is survived by her son, George Martin
Caffrey, Jr. of California; daughter, Deborah Romano of Shepherdstown,
WV; brother-in-law, Thomas, and sister-in-law, Frances Caffrey of
Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Janice Caffrey of Elizabeth City, NC; and
several cousins from the Winchester and WV area.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 9, 2015 at St.
John’s Episcopal Church, Odessa, TX with Rev. Les Jackson presiding. A
graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2015 in Olivet
Cemetery, Moorefield, WV with Pastor Katherine Jackson officiating.
