|Nellie Mae Ours Leatherman
Nellie Mae Ours Leatherman, age 99, of Old Fields, WV, passed away on
Thursday, August 9, 2018 at her residence. Born on August 16, 1918 at “Valley View
Farm” in Fisher, WV, she was the daughter of the late Alston Clyde Ours and Sarah
Elizabeth Judy Ours. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, George T. “Bud” Leatherman, whom she married on December 6, 1940; one
son, Albert Leatherman; one daughter; Rebecca Leatherman; two brothers, Clyde Ours,
Jr. and George Judy Ours; and one sister, Catherine Ours Evans. Mrs. Leatherman was
the last member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth “Betty” Bosley and husband, Jim, of
Old Fields, WV; her son, George Taylor Leatherman, III and wife, Miriam, of Old Fields,
WV; seven grandchildren: Julie Bosley Mead, Jody Bosley Morgan, Gretchen Riley
Cremann, Albert R. Leatherman, II, Jason Paul Riley, Sarah Elizabeth Leatherman, and
Eva Katherine Leatherman Hurley; and nine great-grandchildren.
Nellie attended Riverside School and graduated from Moorefield High School,
Class of 1934. She graduated from Shepherd College and received her Master’s Degree
and Administrative Certificate from West Virginia University. Nellie taught school in
Hardy County for 44 years and retired as Assistant Principal of Moorefield Elementary
Nellie was a member of Tri Sigma Sorority in Shepherd College, and later a
member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Society. She was also a member of South
Branch Valley D.A.R. and Colonial Dames XVII Century, a member at large of New
England Women, a 50-year member and Past Matron of Moorefield Chapter Order of
Eastern Star, a life member of the WV Retired Teachers Association, a life long member
of the Presbyterian Church, and past member of the Ladies Bible Class.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2018
at Elmore Funeral Home, Moorefield, WV. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m.,
Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Moorefield Presbyterian Church, Moorefield, WV with
Pastor Harold Tongun officiating. Burial will follow at Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield,
WV. Memorial Donations may be made to the Albert R. Leatherman, II Scholarship
Fund, c/o Moorefield Presbyterian Church, 109 South Main Street, Moorefield, WV
26836. This benefits a graduating senior of Moorefield High School.
