John Dewey Clayton, age 75, of Moorefield, WV, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Rockingham
Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. Born November 27, 1937, in Fort Run, WV, he was son of the late George
Washington Dewey Clayton and Wilmetta Jenkins Clayton. John was preceded in death by his only brother, Wilbur
Lee Clayton, in 1992.
John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Stewart Clayton; his sister-in-law, Janet Clayton Rose; two
nephews, J. Darby Clayton and Dewey Clayton; one niece, Jennifer Clayton Strawderman; four great-nephews, and
Mr. Clayton served in the US Army Reserve in the 1960’s. He began his retail management career with Coffman-
Fisher Store in Moorefield, WV. In 1980, he retired as an operations and merchandise manager for Leggett/Belk
Department Store. John was also an avid automobile enthusiast.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, February 13, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Elmore Funeral Home
in Moorefield, WV. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, February 14, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brad
Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, WV.
